25th Anniversary of The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) – Ohio Arts Council Series of Interviews – Arts + Accessibility: Spotlight on Andrew Reach

My Spouse, Andrew Reach, who lost his career as a successful architect due to becoming disabled from a spine disease, reinvented himself as a Fine Artist and has become nationally recognized for his work. We moved from Miami to Cleveland to be in the care of a specialist in his spine disease (Scheuermann’s disease). We have been living here for 8 years now. Over the years, Andrew has applied for and won grants from a program through the Ohio Arts Council, “Artists With Disabilities Access Program”. In Addition, Andrew’s work was included in a group exhibition, “Lets Get Digital”, at the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery in Columbus featuring digital artists in the state of Ohio.Andrew Reach in front of the work "Getting Up" at Cleveland Clnic Lutheran HospitalAndrew Reach with his artwork “Getting Up” at the Cleveland Clinic”

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Ohio Arts Council is exploring how accessible arts opportunities enrich the lives of Ohioans of all abilities. I’m honored that they have spotlighted Andrew in a series of interviews “Arts + Accessibility”.

Plot[edit]
Tyler Davidson invites his college buddy Chase home for summer break on Prospect Lake. The Davidson Family appears practically perfect in every way to Chase, in contrast to his own dysfunctional family whom he is not close to. After continued attempts by Tyler to set up Chase with local girls, Chase comes out to Tyler and tells him he is gay. The family attempts to support Chase, and Tyler’s father Nathan in particular begins to spend substantial time with him. Soon Nathan begins to realize that his own long-suppressed feelings toward men are resurfacing, and he has become attracted to Chase. These attractions turn in to a brief affair, which is soon witnessed by Nathan’s wife Stacey and later by Tyler. Once in the open, Nathan and Chase try to come to terms with the effect of their actions on others, as the friendship between Tyler and Chase is ruined, and Nathan attempts to keep his family together. Nathan ultimately decides to leave Stacey, Tyler, and their daughter at the family’s summer home, while he drives off to re-evaluate his life alone.

Anne Leeds is a school teacher with only four weeks of experience. She takes a part-time job as a secretary to an ex-bootlegger and horse-playing gambler by the name of Rocco. He’s a Broadway nightclub owner with a heart of gold who falls in love with Anne. However, he knows he’s too old for her, so keeps his feelings to himself.

Anne “thinks” she’s in love with his younger partner Tony Armotti, a typical playboy type who is afraid to fall in love because it might mean marriage. Tony lives in a walkup apartment above the nightclub, where he often entertains beautiful women. The stairs to the apartment are on the alley behind the club.

The entire nightclub loves Anne but Tony resents her because he wants to take care of her and protect her. Eventually after confronting Tony, Anne quits because Tony tells her he does not love her and never will. After she quits the entire nightclub patronizes Tony over whether Anne quit or was fired. He goes to where she is currently working and, after helping her escape when police raid the gambling den, convinces her to take back the job she quit.
